The North West Air Ambulance flies life-saving missions seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering 5,500 square miles and a residential population of seven million people. The charity needs to raise more than £4 million each year to keep this service operational and saving lives. This would not be possible without the support of fundraisers and the donations received from the general public.
Both its helicopters can reach an appropriate hospital within ten minutes from anywhere in the region, overcoming the problems of congestion, distance and access. It is the speed with which medical care can be delivered that is so crucial in saving lives. A patient’s chances of survival and speed of recovery are dramatically improved by receiving treatment at the scene and arriving at hospital within the ‘Golden Hour.’
The North West Air Ambulance also facilitates urgent or complex hospital transfers, particularly for patients traveling long distances for emergency surgery – typically involving critically-ill children or those with severe head, neck or spinal injuries.
How we Helped
Taking Gift Aid into account, last year’s event raised something like £14,000.
Lynda Brislin, NWAA’s Chief Executive said,
“I was staggered. This art sale came to us almost from nowhere and became one of our five biggest fund-raisers of the year.’
‘It put more fuel in our tanks and enabled us to fly longer. Put simply, it helped us to fly four or five more missions and to save four or five more lives.”
This year the charity is under more pressure – with more demands made on the service and higher fuel bills. Just to match last year’s effort needs an extra £30,000 in the budget.
We have our work cut out. Please help.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, all the sale proceeds are divided equally between the contributing students and our registered charity.
