BA(hons) Illustration with Animation
The Programme provides students with the rare opportunity to combine
Illustration with animation – to allow illustrators to make their work move.
The programme encourages individualism and aims to develop visual languages which are at home in a wide range of professional contexts.
It is an experimental course that embraces drawing at its’ core and asks its’ students to be ambitious curious and reflective.
The curriculum straddles the hand made and the digital: students can develop skills in life-drawing, book binding, etching, screen printing, letterpress, drawing on film, working with sound, iMovie, Photoshop, InDesign, Final Cut Pro and website building.
In year 1 students are introduced to the 3 main building blocks of drawing, printmaking and animation.
Skills are developed through a series of projects which also introduce possible strategies and applications. As the course unfolds students start to identify a framework for their personal practice.
In year 2 students experiment more fully with their practice and are introduced to real life situations and problems: for example working with text and narrative, making books, experimenting with sound and movement and developing design concepts.
In year 3 students work more independently and focus on particular strengths,
Deciding on contexts which are most suitable for their individual visual languages.
